Playoffs:

The Buffalo Bills ended the regular season as kings of the AFC East yet again, now winning 5 division titles in a row, and securing the #2 seed for the playoffs.

Buffalo rested the majority of their starters in a meaningless week 18 matchup against the Patriots. As their getting ready to gear up for a deep post season run. With not a lot of expectations going into the season, after losing many key pieces to the team over the summer. Buffalo prevailed ending the regular season with a 13-4 record.

Wild Card Weekend: Denver Broncos

With an 8-0 record at home this year, the Bills host the young and hungry Broncos. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix made a name for himself this season leading Denver to their first playoff birth in 9 years.

Nix and the Broncos started by scoring on their first drive of the game, with an exposed Bills defence giving up a 43 yard touchdown pass to Troy Franklin. Tyler Bass then put the first points on the board for Buffalo with a 26 yard field goal. The remainder of the first half stayed pretty even with strong defensive play on both sides of the field. James Cook did find the end zone on a 5 yard touchdown run putting Buffalo up before the half 10-7.

Although the Bills gave up 7 on the first drive, they ended up firing on all cylinders for the reminder of the game. Especially in the second half. Keeping Denver scoreless and putting up 21 points unanswered, including a spectacular touchdown catch from running back Ty Johnson.

Buffalo won the game 31-7, with big games from Josh Allen and James Cook combining for 392 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Divisional: Baltimore Ravens

It feels like the entire football world has been waiting for this game. With the constant conversation about who should be taking home the league MVP. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson rematch in Buffalo in the divisional round. One of the most anticipated games in recent memory.

Once again Buffalo sees themselves down 7 after Baltimore scored on their first drive of the game. Buffalo would answer right back with a long drive and a 1 yard touchdown from Ray Davis. In the looks of this game being a shootout, Lamar Jackson makes a couple of costly mistakes throwing an interception to Bills safety Taylor Rapp. Then fumbling on a broken play, turning over the ball again. Two costly turnovers in the first half for Lamar Jackson ended up with big points for Buffalo. Josh Allen found himself in the end zone twice and had his team up 21-10 at halftime.

With all of the momentum seeming to shift in the home teams favour. Jackson and the Ravens weren’t done yet. Lamar had a tremendous second half. Accurately moving the ball down field and running back Derrick Henry was no longer being contained. Baltimore outscored Buffalo 15-6 in the second half of the game but couldn’t seem to convert on their 2 point attempts. Buffalo looked to be playing more of a passive game offensively in the second half, with not a lot of explosive plays to move the sticks downfield. The Ravens scored with 1:33 left in the fourth quarter, but still found themselves down by 2. With the game on the line, Lamar rolled out to his right looking for tight end Mark Andrews. Andrews seemed to be uncovered on the flat route but bobbled the ball and couldn’t secure the conversion.

With only 1 timeout left, Buffalo could just run out the clock to end the game. In this battle between 2 MVP candidates it did not disappoint. Buffalo beats Baltimore in the divisional round 27-25 and moves onto their second AFC championship appearance this decade.

AFC Championship: Kansas City Chiefs

Mahomes vs Allen, Chiefs vs Bills. What more could you want with a trip to the super bowl on the line. Yet again these two teams matchup in the playoffs. This being their 4th playoff matchup in the past 5 years. The Bills seeking to get over the hump this year, as they have a 0-4 record against the Chiefs in playoff games within the Allen, Mahomes era.

This highly anticipated matchup was back and fourth throughout the entire game. Josh Allen did seem to appear nervous on the Bills first drive, bobbling a couple snaps. But ended up finding his groove. An important touchdown came at the end of the 2nd quarter, with a 34 yard catch by Mack Hollins. The Bills climbed back to make the game 16-21 Kansas.

Allen seemed to feel back to himself coming out for the third quarter as he was extending plays quite well and making good reads. James Cook also continued to stay hot, punching in his second touchdown of the evening. The offence was efficient driving down the field and putting points on the board. But the problem for Buffalo was that Mahomes and the Chiefs offence was doing the same. There were promising defensive moments from Buffalos lineman, getting to Mahomes a couple times, but couldn’t seem to stop him from moving the ball downfield. Mahomes was himself throwing 18/26, 245 yards, throwing and running in a touchdown. Not being able to force any turnovers like the previous week is what I think hurt Buffalo the most. Kansas City ended Buffalo’s season for the second consecutive year, with a final score of 32-29.
